"Lenovo's LePad/IdeaPad U1 was among the more interesting tablets revealed during last year's CES, and after a series of delays, the company is almost ready to launch the device. Set to ship sometime in the first quarter of 2011 for $520, the 10.1-inch LePad is a standalone slate that features Lenovo's Android-based LeOS, a 1.3GHz Qualcoom Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of flash storage, a 2MP camera, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 3G connectivity.
Since tablets aren't exactly ideal for productivity, Lenovo plans to sell the LePad as part of a more complete (and more expensive) package with the IdeaPad U1 base that start at $1,300. While that may seem pricey for a dock, the U1 is basically an entirely separate machine that offers quick access to a Windows environment and a hardware keyboard. Features include a 1.2GHz Intel Core i5-540UM processor, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, 320GB of storage, and Windows 7 Home Premium."

Asus unveils U35 and U45 ultra thin laptops
Asus of Taiwan has unveiled two new ultra thin laptops with the release of the U35 and U45. The U35 sports a 13.3″ display while the U45 will have a 14.1″ screen. Both laptops are backed with brushed aluminum lids and will come with a choice of processors (Intel Core i3 or i5). They will use almost the same chassis as the older UL30. The U45 will come with an optical drive and thus be slightly thicker, while the U35 does not have an optical drive at all. Some of the first owners of this laptop weighed it and reported a weight of 1.8 kilograms (Asus reports on this matter were a bit confusing).
Samsung Q330 – affordable yet powerful and long-lasting
This is the first laptop of the category I wrote about which I will quickly review. With its 13.3" screen and relatively low weight (1.97kG, or 2.35kG with the charger), it is a machine which definitely does not weigh too much to carry around all day. While being low weight and profile, it still offers high performance by using a 2.26GHz i3-350M (regular voltage!) processor. Its 3GB of 1066MHz DDR3 memory make multitasking work like a charm. Performance aside, the lid is finished with a fetching brushed-effect black plastic, and inside the metal imitation continues, with a silver plastic wrapping around the black, Scrabble-tile keys.
Some extra content soon
As many manufacturers seem to be launching ultraportables with regular voltage i3, i5 and i7 processors besides their CULV lines, I will be posting some news from this category as well. They still adhere to the "CULV" idea, since many of them offer very long battery life (in the 6+ hour range) while being very lightweight and of slim profile. It's an interesting blend of processing power and portability which deserves to be mentioned.
Stay tuned :)
HP TouchSmart tm2t Now with Intel Core i3 or i5 ULV processors
"The HP TouchSmart tm2t, HP’s most popular consumer convertible tablet just got more powerful with the inclusion of an Intel Core i3 ULV processor and the ability to upgrade to a Core i5 ULV processor. Along with this upgrade, users can choose to add an optional ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450 GPU for a switchable graphics solution.
The HP TouchSmart tm2t is a 12.1″ convertible tablet that can be used like a slate for writing and touch or open like a normal notebook for typing. The touchscreen will work in both uses.
ASUS UL-series laptops surface at e-tailers with Core i3 ULV processor
"If the pint-sized ASUS laptop above looks a wee bit familiar, it’s because you’ve seen it before — the 12-inch UL20FT is basically a refreshed UL20A, but with the surprisingly elusive Core i3 ULV guts. The UL20FT appeared at ExcaliberPC this weekend, while its Optimus-equipped big brother appears destined for Amazon; in a slight change of plans, both feature the 1.2GHz Core i3-330UM processor. While the $600 UL20FT is a solid netbook alternative, the $900 UL80JT has double the capacity (500GB) and memory (4GB) plus an optical disc drive, and if our review of its doppelganger is any indication, the 14-inch switchable graphics machine will have stellar battery life. Still, we can’t help feel a little bummed by the lack of the Core i7-640UM we were originally promised."

Toshiba Libretto W100 dual screen tablet PC
Toshiba has revived the 25-year Libretto brand name by introducing this intriguingly designed laptop-style dual screen tablet. It strongly resembles Microsoft's canceled Courier project and some concepts for the new OLPC XO Laptop, although Toshiba begs to differ. It runs a heavily modified (by Toshiba) version of Windows 7 which supports the dual screens. The monitors have a diagonal of 7 inches and a resolution of 1024x600 each. The whole machine is powered by an Intel Pentium U5400 ULV processor and storage is provided by an impressie 62GB SSD. As far as connectivity is converned, you get WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and optional mobile broadband. You also get a single USB 2.0 port, microSD card reader, 1-megapixel webcam and a battery good for just 3.5hrs of use (the 4-cell version provides even less runtime). The Libretto W100 measures 202 x 123 x 30.7 mm and weighs 819g, and has a built-in accelerometer to flip screen orientation.
Lenovo’s Ideapad U160 spotted at Computex
This might come a bit late as Computex 2010 was held two weeks ago, but it is interesting news nonetheless. The Ideapad U160 is obviously the successor of the Ideapad U150, which was a very decent, albeit overpriced, ultraportable laptop. It sports an 11.6" screen with a resolution of 1366x768, a full size keyboard and will ship with a Windows 7 Premium operating system. Various are said to become available, covering the whole range of Intel's new CULV processors, namely the new Pentiums and Celerons as well as Core i3, i5 and i7 chips. The Lenovo IdeaPad U160 should run about $699 and up when it hits the streets later this month.
Fujitsu Lifebook P770, one of the first i7 CULV laptops
After the Lifebook P3110 which saw moderate success and reviews, Fujitsu has come up with a new CULV laptop sporting one of the new Intel CULV series processors, namely an i7 UM. My personal experience with Fujitsu laptops hasn't been great, but they are definitely a company you should look into when looking for one. They often provide notebooks with good characteristics at very competitive prices. Now, lets take a quick glimpse at the P770.
Specs, Design and Construction
This is one of the first laptops sporting an Intel i7 UM processor. To be more precise, Fujitsu has opted for the 620UM which runs at 1.067 GHz and has a TDP of 18 Watts, along with an integrated graphics card. It has 2 GB of DDR3 RAM which can be further expanded since you have access to an empty slot. It's about 30mm thick and weighs a rather light 1.5Kg. Its storage is a bit disappointing, as it only includes a 160GB hard drive running at 5400 rpm. The plastics feel a bit cheap, there is noticeable flex in certain areas and the monitor lid can also be bent a lot, meaning that the monitor could be damaged. I'm not very impressed by the design either, it resembles a Thinkpad and I hate that, but I'm not going to judge it by its cover. It comes with a genuine copy if Windows 7 Professional.
Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830Z to hit this August at best
"Acer's Aspire TimelineX 1830Z is slated to arrive sometime this August, although a September release date has not been ruled out just yet. It will run off an Intel Pentium U5400 ULV processor that will retail for around €599 in Europe, where it holds up to DDR3 RAM for a speedier performance level, catering for folks who want something that is thin and lightweight without compromising on performance on a Windows-based platform. The LED display sports 1,366 x 768 resolution which means you can watch High Definition videos in 720p, although Full HD support is sadly lacking. At least you can output your HD video files via its HDMI port. A memory card reader, a 1.3-megapixel webcam and a 6-cell battery rounds off the list of features for this 1.4kg notebook. We're guessing that it will hit the market Stateside soon after its European release, so keep a look out on this space."

Alienware M11x adds Core i5 UM, i7 UM options abroad
"Confirming earlier reports, Dell has begun updating its Alienware M11x ultraportable with Intel's ULV Core i3, i5, and i7 CPUs. Malaysian customers can now purchase the device with a 1.2GHz i3-330UM, 1.06/1.86GHz Core i5-520UM, or 1.20/2.26GHz Core i7 CPU.
Each of the basic configurations retains the same 11.6-inch 1366x768 display, paired with Nvidia GT335 graphics components containing 1GB of memory. Customers can choose a variety of customization options.
Toshiba Satellite T230 and T210 released
"Toshiba has launched three new laptops on Monday, one that is 3D ready and two that you'll actually want to use to do some work on. The new Satellite T230 (13.3-inch) and T210 (11.6-inch) duo of netbooks promise to be ultra slim while still giving you a battery that lasts 8.5 hours on a single charge thanks to the use of an Intel Ultra Low Voltage processors and six-cell battery. For the shallow amongst you, yes you know that's you, the Satellite T230 is available in a Precious Black finish, while the Satellite T210 comes in Iron Red Metallic (like Iron Man but without the gold motif). At just 17.6mm at its thinnest point and starting at only 1.48kg the netbooks surprisingly pack a lot in like DNLA support, two USB 2.0 sockets, Bluetooth 2.1, a Multi-Card Reader, HDMI port for streaming to a HD-Ready TV and that's before you start talking about its 4GB of memory and 500GB storage space.
Computex 2010: ASUS 12” Tablet unveiled
"Without a doubt one of the most aniticipated launches of Computex this year was the launch of two Tablets by ASUS, which it hopes will be a sound response to the Apple iPad. The unveiling recently at computex, of a 12” slate with a Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage Core 2 Duo processor and Windows 7 Home Premium was indeed impressive.
If these specs are not impressive enough, ASUS filled in a little more details:
Computex 2010: Thin CULV Core i5 laptop spotted in MSI booth
"COMPUTEX — Only a week after seeing Intel announce its 32-nm Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage processors, we were able to get up close to a laptop with one of those CPUs in it. The 13-inch X-Slim X360 in MSI's Computex booth had one of the CULV Core i5 processors, a sub-1" profile, and purported battery life of up to 10 hours.
In true CULV tradition, the system looks sleek and feels both light and cool to the touch. Core i5 goodness in that kind of form factor will come at a price, though: we were told around $899 to $999. Luckily, MSI plans to offer different configurations of the X360 with CULV Core i3 chips and perhaps lighter specs, which should help keep the starting price somewhat reasonable.
